RWTH Aachen University, established in 1870, is divided into 9 faculties. Approximately 40,000 students are enrolled in 115 courses of study. The number of foreign students (5,000) substantiates the university’s international orientation. Every year about 5.000 graduates and doctoral graduates leave the university.
Approximately 500 professors as well as 4700 academic and 2636 non-academic colleagues work at RWTH Aachen University. The university budget amounts to 894 million Euros of which about 354 million Euros are third-party expenditures. Moreover, special fields of research, 25 graduate colleges, among them 14 founded by the German Research Foundation and 16 affiliated institutes illustrate the university’s considerable research potential.
The Institute of Education, which will be in charge of the coordination and management of the project, is one of the leading Institutions in the Teacher Education programme at the University. Three professors as well as 37 academic and non-academic colleagues work at the Institute and on several research projects. Research on the teaching profession and teacher training is one of the major research areas of the Institute.
More specifically the Institute focuses on teacher motivation and emotion, E-Learning and media education in the context of teacher training, teaching as a profession and self-assessment. The Institute has a broad international network, which includes research partners in Australia, USA, Asia, and all over Europe.
